Well, I finally made it back from Meltdown and a turn in France, but headed right back to the airport for a last minute chance to photograph Lilith Fair 2010 in Los Angeles (well, OK, scenic downtown Irvine, really). I had never been to a Lilith Fair, and the divine Ms. Emmylou Harris was on the bill in LA, so that all seemed irresistible. The weather was gorgeous, warm and sunny in the afternoon, chilly at the end of the show.
The bill was Brandi Carlile (who has matured into a wonderful and generous performer), Emmylou Harris (the queen), Jenna Riviera (and her large, sombreroed band and her impressive purple trained dress), self proclaimed redneck girl Miranda Lambert, and our lady of Lilith, Sarah McLachlan . All the ladies, and even a few gentlemen counterparts, put up tight professional sets. It was a little shocking to see how many seats were empty for much of the show, but most were filled by the time Ms. McLachlan ‘s set rolled around. Lilith might have had a tough go of it in some ways this year with cancellations and the like, but the show here went on, much to the delight of the crowd.
