Politics have always been personal in the songs of Drive-By Truckers, and their new album, The Unraveling, out this Friday, is no deviation from that path. That feeling you get when you see a breaking news alert about yet another mass shooting in America? The Truckers get that too, and they’ve channeled it into the song “Thoughts and Prayers.”
Below, watch Truckers Patterson Hood and Jay Gonzalez perform an acoustic version of the song, filmed in December at Eddie’s Attic in Atlanta.
“This is a song we have been playing live for awhile,” Hood tells us. “I honestly would prefer for it not to be timely at all. It is, however, a beautiful track and something that absolutely has to be said.”
