The New Los Angeles Folk Festival
Folk culture recently re-rooted itself in Los Angeles, breathing new life into what Gram Parsons called “cosmic American music.” LA Folk is traditional and experimental, acoustic and electronic, throwbacks and pioneers. What is folk and is it contagious?
“True folk music comes from the heart of the people, the general pulse of a culture. It is ‘music of the folk.’” — Linda Perhacs
My hope is to examine “what is folk?” through events and interviews, strengthening the community here in L.A. and creating positive special experiences that keep people smiling for days. You know the kind? Not to sound hokey.
The first occurrence of The New Los Angeles Folk Festival takes place on August 7, 2010 at Historical Monument 157, with performances by Linda Perhacs (public debut of new music & band), Mia Doi Todd, Les Shelleys, Ariana Delawari, LA Ladies Choir, He’s My Brother, She’s My Sister, Olentangy John, Henry Wolfe, Eagle Winged Palace, Robert James, Sandra Sarra and special guests.
